I'm writing to share the story of my friend, Diana Stamey, a single mother and cancer warrior, who is facing an unimaginable challenge. Diana was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer. What was supposed to be one surgery and radiation turned into five, plus 15 months of chemo. The initial estimate of being out of work for 3-6 weeks has now stretched into 7 months on disability, with more chemo and another surgery yet to come.
There is no way around it, cancer is expensive. Disability helps keep the lights on, gas in the car, and a roof over the head, but it is just a fraction of a full paycheck. With the mounting medical bills on top of the lost wages, it isn’t hard to imagine the financial burden and stress that is being placed on top of her medical battles.
Despite the fight she has been waging, Diana has continued being of service to others. Volunteering with her daughter’s 4H program, SeaPerch (an extracurricular underwater robotics competition), and Wreaths Across America (for veterans). Sometimes it is the people who make a habit of helping others who find it the hardest to ask for and accept help themselves.
Please consider supporting Diana and her family during this difficult time. Any amount can make a huge difference, and can add up. Thank you for your kindness and consideration.
