Hello everyone, my name is Tariq Qayum,
This past Friday, on September 19th, while I was sitting in the library studying for my second-ever medical school exam, I got the call that every child dreads; my mom had been in a terrible rollover car accident.
Thanks to the incredible first responders, she was rushed to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma. Although I'm beyond grateful that she survived, I can't help but acknowledge that her recovery is going to be long and difficult. She won’t be able to work for the foreseeable future, which adds another layer of emotional toll on top of everything she’s already going through; I need this time to be a period of healing instead of the further burden of medical costs and living expenses.
My mom has always been the strongest person I know. From the moment we immigrated to the United States, she has sacrificed endlessly to support our family as a single mother. She has always been our rock, and now she’s the one who needs support. As I just started medical school, I don’t have the means to shoulder this financial burden alone, which has been weighing heavy. This is why I’m reaching out for help from friends, family, and their network to ease some of the weight on her so she can focus fully on healing. Every donation will go toward her medical bills and basic living expenses while she’s unable to work.
If you’re able to contribute, no matter the amount, I can’t thank you enough, and it will make a real difference for her. If you're not in the position to donate, I completely understand, yet sharing this page or keeping my mom in your prayers would mean the world to us.
Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us and for standing by my mother during this difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
Tariq
