Stand by Debbie: Fight Against MDS Together

Hi, my name is Sherry Smith. Im raising funds for a very close friend of mine, shes more like a sister than a friend. She is the most fit and most generous and giving person i know. Her name is Debbie Shapiro and she is 62 years old. She lives in Dover, New Jersey. She has been helping her mother deal with the sudden passing of her husband, Debbies dad in December 2023. So shes been dealing with alot and She got a recent diagnosis of MDS FOR SHORT BUT THE FULL NAME IS

MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROME. Its a form of cancer but it is curable. It is a disease of the bone marrow where the bone marrow produces malforned red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The only cure is for her to get a bone marrow transplant. Until then she has to have several platelet and blood transfusions every week. She has to miss time from work to go to get these transfusions almost 5 times weekly. So the extra expense with the medical tests and transfusions weekly combined with the loss of time from work is getting to put a financial strain on her. When its timė for the transplant to happen she will have to be on temporary disability for a minimum 6-9 months which will put a further strain on her finances. She is the best friend and sister a person could have. Please find it in your ĥeart to help me reach the goal for her. She needs all of our help please, i cant lose my sister, my friend. She has extra gas expenses, hospital testing and transfusions, daily living and additional medications, foods. Its really putting a strain on her financial situation.
