Hi, my name is Melinda. My poor stepdad of twenty-five years, David, has been through cancer treatment. He was diagnosed in January 2024, with a tumor on his neck the size of a tennis ball. It turned out to be stage 4 advanced head and neck lymph node cancer.

After eight weeks, 5 days a week of radiation and chemo, all the side effects are as bad as the treatment. Now, he has no saliva glands and a collapsed trachea. He lost over 50 pounds and has difficulty swallowing food. He is on a liquid diet and they want to install a feeding tube.

The chemo treatment also caused loss of hearing and he suffers from tinnitus, as well. The chemo and radiation did horrible damage to his teeth. His dental bill will be over $15K.

My mom takes care of David. They have tried to pay their bills and now have no money because of all the medical bills. David’s business of thirty-five years is gone, so there is no income because he is too sick to work. Bills have accumulated. They have been living on credit cards and now they are all maxed out. With mounting medical bills and credit card debt. Along with the medical stress, they also have a lot of financial stress, just trying to live day to day and get by. All their money is gone.

Recovery is slow going and the doctors have told him it will be a very slow recovery, but he is trying his best to be positive every day. He is fighting so hard for recovery, but it may take years.
