Stand by Daniel and His Family During Crisis

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shani Baird, and I am asking for prayers and financial assistance for the precious McCowen Family. I have raised a bit on my own for others before, but the amount they need is far greater than any amount I have ever been able to raise. Please read and help if you can. Please pray for Daniel, his wife Kim, and their three kiddos.

On November 26, 2024, Daniel underwent an emergency surgery to remove a tumor. In the following weeks after testing, it was unfortunately found to be Glioblastoma, Grade 4. This is the most aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer. Daniel was given 16-18 months to live. He lost half of his vision in his left eye and has a hard time with his depth perception. He finished the first round of chemo and radiation at the beginning of February.

A few days later, the surgery scar was red and tender. They went to the ER, and they did an MRI. They left, and on the way home, the hospital called and said to come back. Daniel had developed an infection where the tumor was, and they needed to do another surgery and clear it out. The next morning, they did brain surgery again, removing all the infection and covering the hole with titanium. He went home a week later with an I.V. of antibiotics for 6 weeks. After those 6 weeks, another MRI and weekly labs showed the infection was gone. Since then, the MRI in April showed a new tumor. Another MRI was done a month later, and the tumor is a little smaller. He is now on a high dose of chemo to try and kill the new tumor. The next MRI will be in July to see if it is growing or not. Because of the changes in his vision, comprehension, and overall capabilities, he is no longer able to drive or work. And even if he could, his work has removed his position, so his last day will be the end of July.

He cannot apply for disability until after he is officially let go, and there is a yearlong backlog. He also cannot be working during the application process. As a last-ditch effort, they are trying to get approved for accelerated death benefit. Basically, he can get part of his life insurance now since he has a terminal illness, but it takes time.

Very long story short, this family is staring down a very dark cloud over them, and they are in NEED. Monthly bills won't stop, grocery bills, gas, kids need things, medical bills are piling up, and the financial burden of the unknown of what is coming next. Our community must step up and help this family during this very dark time. What I can raise on my page is not going to be enough. I am pulling out the GoFundMe website and praying you all share the heck out of this post/page, and we are able to make a huge difference for this family who so desperately need us most right now. Please lift them up in prayer, and if you feel led, please donate to help provide for them. No amount is too small. God can multiply all of our amounts. Thank you so much, and God bless each of you.
