Stand by Dan: Overcoming Post-Surgery Challenges

What was supposed to be a simple, routine gallbladder surgery has turned into every family’s worst nightmare.

Our friend, father, husband, and local business owner, Dan Rohwer of D&J Construction, has been fighting for his life for over a week in the hospital.

Dan suffered major complications after surgery and lost over half of his blood. He has already required a blood transfusion to try to avoid another surgery and continues to receive iron infusions to keep his body strong enough to fight. He went more than eight days without food and is now on a nutrition tube to sustain him, while another tube removes fluid building up in his abdomen. Doctors have also discovered an abdominal and bowel obstruction, adding even more pain and challenges to his recovery.

What should have been a quick procedure has left him weak, unable to work, and facing a long road ahead. The stress on his body has also caused heart and breathing complications. Instead of recovering at home, he is still in the hospital—uncertain of when he will finally be able to return to his family.

Dan is the heart of his family and his business. He has spent years building D&J Construction and providing for those he loves. Now, in this time of crisis, he and his wife, Jina, need us. The mounting medical bills, the cost of time away from work, and the uncertainty of what’s to come are overwhelming.
