On Thursday afternoon, August 21, I received a call that would change the dynamic of our family again. My brother Chip was riding his motorcycle on Kellogg and an inattentive driver coming from the opposite direction had turned in front of him. My brother was being airlifted to Wesley hospital in critical condition.
When I arrived at the hospital, I found my brother had already had his left knee put back in place. He was in a terrible amount of pain and he had no idea what he was in for. Chip's left knee was dislocated and his fibula and patella were broken. He also has two fractured thoracic vertebrae and severe road rash on his shoulders, arms, back, chest, thighs, and lower legs. His first surgery on Friday went well. He will need multiple surgeries in the near future to attempt to repair every tendon and ligament in his left knee, and months of therapy to be able to walk again. Thank the Lord above for the amazing helmet my brother was wearing. Without it, I wouldn't still have him with us, and my mother would kill me when she gets back from the Philippines.
This isn't something I am good at doing, but I am asking my community to help my brother during this unexpected and difficult time. My brother is kind and has always been generous and willing to help others where needed. I am asking for help so that Chip has less to worry about moving forward. My mother and I will be attempting to help make sure that my nephew's schedule doesn't change much and that he has what he needs, as well as trying to make sure that Chip will make it to his doctor and therapy appointments that I know will be coming up. I wish I could, but I can't do it all. Please help us keep his bills paid until we can get some help from the insurance.
