Young mother of two diagnosed just days after she delivered her 2nd son with brain cancer. Unfortunately, this young family of four has had a few tragedies over the last two years and have fought every step of the way. She does not like to ask for help but they have reached a point where they have little choice. Brisa shared her story in her own words, please read her story.
““Hi, my name is Brisa Garcia. I am 23 years old and really need some help and the support of my community! #cancersucks
I'm not really sure where to begin with this, but a little background story about myself is I’ve worked since I was 15 years old and became a dental assistant when I was 16. I had my first son at 21 years old on May 11, 2022, and recently had my second son on June 7, 2024. Less than two weeks later, we discovered I have brain cancer called medulloblastoma, a softball-sized tumor in the back of my brain close to the spine. This has been the most horrifying and most challenging time I’ve ever had to experience. I went through three different surgeries. I’ve had to get a draining tube put in my head due to brain fluids building up. From so much brain fluid building up, I went blind. I went into surgery that night, and they were only able to remove 80% of the cancer, leaving 20%. That 20% is now being treated by radiation and chemotherapy. I did regain my sight after that surgery, thank the Lord. I am now entering my fifth cycle of chemotherapy. The cancer is at a grade 4. We are fighting this awful disease and praying every day. Lorenzo, my kids' father, and the man who just became my husband on July 12 of this year, was injured at work in June of 2023. His coworker wasn’t paying attention and smashed him with a train (yes, a train), breaking his tibia bone, fibula bone, his MCL, and his ACL. He was receiving workers' comp benefits but has now been cleared to work. Though due to the very unfortunate and awful circumstances of this brain tumor, he is not able to. He is my ride to and from every doctor's appointment. He is the one that has been taking care of our two children under 3. He is the one who has to do everything right now. It’s kind of impossible for him to work on top of doing it all and make sure I’m OK. So we are graciously and kindly asking for ANY support you may be able to provide, whether it’s JUST ONE DOLLAR. Everything adds up! We usually wouldn’t come to the public like this, but we are just at an end and don’t know what else to do. Anything that you can help with would be very much appreciated during this very heartbreaking and tragic time in our lives. Thank you so much! Even just a prayer works! ”
