Meet Asuneli, a bright and courageous 7-year-old girl who has recently been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), two rare and serious liver conditions. Asuneli’s journey has been a tough one, and she has already faced many challenges that no child should have to endure.

AIH is a chronic condition where Asuneli’s immune system attacks her liver, and PSC causes inflammation and scarring of her bile ducts, further compromising her liver’s function. Despite being so young, Asuneli’s resilience is truly remarkable. Currently, her treatment involves medication to suppress her immune system and ongoing monitoring of her liver condition.

Unfortunately, her battle doesn’t end there. Asuneli has also been dealing with overlap syndrome, oropharyngeal dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and is dependent on a gastrostomy tube (GTUB) to help her feed due to her severe feeding difficulties. She also struggles with failure to thrive, meaning she isn’t gaining weight or growing as expected for her age. To top it all off, Asuneli has been diagnosed with ADHD and experiences midline thoracic back pain, making everyday life even harder.

As a single mother, July is doing everything she can to support her precious daughter. But the mounting medical expenses, including frequent ER visits, specialized treatments, medications, and the need for ongoing care, have put a heavy strain on their finances. There are days when Asuneli can’t go to school because of blood work appointments, doctor visits, or the need to rest at home. The family is doing their best to keep Asuneli on track with her education, and any support you can provide would help in making this journey a little less overwhelming for them.
