Stand by Derek

As our precious Derek was recovering from hip surgery as well as shingles, he was diagnosed with cancer.  A mass on his colon and his bowel were detected in February 2017 and a lump on his neck was diagnosed as lymphoma.

If you know Derek, you know that he is the most kind, caring and heartfelt man you could ever meet.  He is a father to two beautiful children and a husband of 30 years to his wife Andrea.  Derek was born and raised in Tofino, BC where he lives to this day. He has made his living from the coastal waters as a fisherman, geoduck tender, and now an oyster farmer in Clayoquot Sound. 

Derek is staying positive and ready for the battle of his life, but he can't do it alone.  He needs our help.   With his recent diagnosis and ongoing treatments, Derek is not able to work and the bills are mounting. We are hoping to help cover travel costs, lost wages, and medical costs not covered by his medical services plan. We want Derek to be able to concentrate on getting healthy and not have to worry about the financial burden this fight will take.
