Newborn baby "Able's" fight with whooping cough
Hello,
A really close family that I know is currently going through an extremely tough time and could really use some financial help as their newborn baby boy "Abel" has been hospitalized at Dornbecker with whooping cough. He is currently intubated as of 04/03/25 and has been slowly getting better, but it's still a long road ahead. They have given me permission to create and share this GoFundMe on their behalf. Robbie, his wife Stacy, and their two twins could really use your help even if it's just to pray or share this fundraiser with others. They are some of the kindest people that I know and are really some amazing people. This family has always had my back, so now it's my turn to have theirs. Please help if you can. LOVE YOU GUYS! We're all praying for you especially ABLE!
Stacy has posted these updates on able as of the last few days with #3 being the latest, and I will do my best to keep everybody updated on his condition.
4/9/25 update per Stacy!
Good morning! Able and I just attended early morning prayer online and are still wide awake. We had a decent night. No fevers. A couple of little apnea spells when coughing. We will see the DR later this morning to see how they want to address that. Able seems to be everyone’s favorite patient on this floor because he’s so snuggly. The feeding line is back in because we’ve lost a little bit of weight and this ensures that what he doesn’t eat still goes in his stomach. We are close to having the stamina to eat the amount we are supposed to.
Update #3 Able had a decent night. He had breathing treatments to clear lungs. He had some Tylenol for a low grade fever. No new today except to maintain comfort. DR said his white blood cell count is stable. That is a concern but not right now. Thank you again for all the love and support being poured out. It’s impossible to respond to everyone but we are reading each response and feel the love you give. Thank you for the continued prayers.
Update #2 Able is doing good and seems much more rested after being intubated. He’s on antibiotics for pertussis and the rest of us are taking them too as a precaution. Tomorrow we get to check in to the Ronald McDonald house here on campus so we can stay close by as we quarantine between here and hospital. (Thank you Jessica for the research) now that we know what we are dealing with no more visitors until we get through the 5 days of antibiotics. We appreciate all the love and prayers from everyone for our family.
Update*** Able has pertussis.
I don’t usually post personal on here but Able was having some apnea yesterday he has a small cold and wasn’t eating. I took him in to the ER and his apnea was worse and so we were admitted and transferred to Dornbeckers last night. He continued having apnea so DR tried bipap and it wasn’t enough so Able had to be intubated. We appreciate any prayers and if you have reached out and we haven’t gotten back to you it’s because we are really only responding to family. I will try and post updates here. Able is stable right now and resting. No Covid, rsv, flu a or meningitis. He has the dr’s perplexed. But I had apnea as a baby and so did Legend.
