Stand Against Violence: Bonnard's Story

Help Us Honor Kuya Bonnard and Support Our Family in This Time of Tragedy

Hi, my name is Johnrey

I’m writing this with a heavy and broken heart. On April 17th- Philippines, my Kuya — Bonnard — was taken from us in a way no one should ever have to experience. He was the victim of senseless violence, and our entire world has been shaken.

Kuya wasn’t just my older brother — he was my guide, my protector, my inspiration. In our family, Kuya means more than just birth order — it means leadership, love, responsibility, and heart. Bonnard was all of that and more. He carried us through hard times, and now we’re trying to carry on without him. It doesn’t feel real. And it’s not fair.

In 2023, I faced two near-death experiences during serious illness and hospitalization. It was one of the darkest years of my life, but I want to thank every single person in the community who stepped in with prayers, help, and love. I’m here because of that support — and because Kuya Bonnard never left my side emotionally. Even from afar, he checked in every single day, especially with our family friends, always making sure I was okay. That’s just who he was — steady, present, loyal, and full of heart.

He never let the weight of the world harden his spirit. He’s a spirited guy/brother who always looked after me and my parents; and said not to worry about them there but to think about myself. He’s a big bro who took care of my parents when I am away and can’t do anything from afar. He may not be a perfect person to anyone but he’s my brother, and he doesn't deserve this.

Right now, we are facing unimaginable pain. And in the middle of this grief, we’re trying to find a way to give Kuya the farewell he deserves and to support our mom and Dad, who is carrying a pain only a parents can understand.

We must speak up and stand together against violence — in our communities and across the world. Too many lives are being lost, too many families are being left in sorrow. Kuya Bonnard’s life mattered. And he should still be here. We stand and aiming for Justice. Justice for my brother.

We will never stop loving him. We will never stop honoring him. And we will not let this break our spirit.

Thank you for holding us in your hearts.
Thank you for helping me once before — and for helping our family now.

With all my love,
Johnrey
For Kuya Bonnard...forever.
