Hi, my name is Thomas and I am fundraising for our mum and grandma, Ursula.

In February 2023, her life took a drastic turn when she was hospitalized with severe Covid-19, followed by a series of complications including a lung infection and heart issues. During this time, a routine CT scan revealed a suspicious mass in her breast, which was later confirmed to be cancer. Despite undergoing surgery and various treatments, her journey has been fraught with setbacks, including intubation induced injuries, infections, and further hospitalizations.

Recently, during a hip surgery, metastases were discovered which have spread to other areas of her body. We have reached out to several hospitals, which either refused treatment due to her age (80) or wanted to put her on medication (anti-hormone treatment), which has severe side effects similar to a chemotherapy. Our mum cannot undertake that treatment, covered by NHS, because she would suffer those side effects, which would kill her quicker than the cancer itself. She and the family prefer quality of life over agonizing life extension.

The recommended treatment, not covered by NHS, is a comprehensive radiation therapy, which offers hope for pain relief and a better quality of life. However, this treatment costs €15,000, an amount we cannot afford.
