Stage 3 Lung Cancer patient denied assistance

Hi, my name is Lisa, I am a 58-year-old married woman living in Enterprise, Alabama. In 2020, my husband Jeffrey was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer. Soon after being diagnosed, Jeffrey had a lobectomy in which they removed one of his lungs. Shortly after the lobectomy, my husband was informed he needed to continue with chemotherapy to ensure all cancer was gone. During his recovery from the surgery, and due to how weak and sick the chemo and radiation made him, Jeff was unable to work. My income was not enough to support us both despite working overtime. I currently work full time at Salon Centric, and I also do hair on the side to try and stay afloat, but unfortunately, it's just not enough. Jeffrey has health insurance through the state, which does not fully cover the cost and outstanding medical bills that now have exceeded $200k. In addition, Jeff was denied by the social security administration for additional health care and disability benefits multiple times. They have told us that they will not accept him unless he is on his deathbed. After the surgery, my husband was cancer-free for ten months until a routine check-up showed cancer had now spread to the other lung, his chest, and throat. His cancer has now progressed to stage 3 lung cancer, and Jeffrey now has to do Chemotherapy 3 times a week and radiation Monday through Friday. Times are very hard right now, and despite working a full-time job and picking up side work, it's just not enough. I consider myself a hard worker, my husband and I have never asked for a handout, but we have no other options. Seeing what this disease and these treatments have done to him is heartbreaking for my family and I. I'm trying my best to take care of my sick husband, work and keep my faith in God. Any help would be a blessing and very much appreciated in this time of need.
