Stafford Warriors Represent SE in World Series
The Stafford Baseball League (SBL), 16-18 year-old Warriors, went undefeated in the Babe Ruth League Southeast Regional Championship July 14-17 in Stafford. The Warriors defeated Shenandoah Valley (Va.) 10-0, Dilworth (N.C.), Manassas (Va.) and Manassas 15-5 in the championship game. The Stafford Warriors took the state champion title last week in Mt. Crawford, Va., after going undefeated in the Virginia Babe Ruth League Championship. This is the first team in SBL’s 30-year history to win both the state and regional titles advancing to the pinnacle of the tournament trail, the 2021 Babe Ruth League World Series in Mobile, Ala.
The all-star Warriors team is comprised of young men from Stafford and Fredericksburg with the majority student-athletes from Brooke Point, Colonial Forge, Fredericksburg Christian, Mountain View, North Stafford and Stafford High Schools.
Due to COVID, the travel stipend and other items typically covered for teams to travel and stay at Babe Ruth World Series have been reduced for 2021. The Stafford Warriors must check in July 29 and depart Aug. 8. The team is quickly evaluating its resources in hopes of making this trip a reality for these athletes that have worked hard to get to this once in a lifetime opportunity. The team has less than two weeks to raise funds to cover travel, hotel stay for nine nights and meals for its’ 17-man roster.
The cost of travel to and from Mobile, Ala., hotel stay for 9 nights (shared), and food (for the players only) is approximately $1,742 per athlete. All players under 18 will also be required to bring a parent or guardian which isn't factored into the cost.
Please donate, or help us spread the word so we can bring this once in a lifetime opportunity to reality.
Thanks in advance for your contribution.
