Staff Relief Fund at The Awkward Scone

When we opened The Awkward Scone in late 2019, we hoped to create an environment of inclusiveness and respect, a community for both our customers and our staff. While we worked diligently to build structures to help protect and care for our staff, we were unable to protect them from the fallout that has taken place from this outbreak. We were resigned to lay off our entire staff this past weekend. Our staff of 7, like many others, have been left jobless in  a market where it'll be impossible to find a new job and a system overwhelmed by unemployment requests.

The next few months will be uncertain for us all, and we will likely all be in need in different ways. But, if you are in a place to assist others now, and can give some of that assistance to a cheerful and loving set of humans in Brooklyn, please consider doing so! 

Ideally this fund will help secure our staff during this period while we continue to keep the cafe on life support with delivery only business serviced by myself, Eric and my business partner Erin. When we make it to the other side, we hope to be able to welcome back the entire crew. Your help would assist in that goal, so that none of them are forced to make other life changing decisions/moves/etc. 

So if you've ever fawned over one of Lydia's vegan babkas, witnessed an impromptu dance routine by Nick and Violet, started your workday with Aria, or ended it chatting up Kali...or if you've been in on the weekend while Joffre is slaving away making burritos, or ever had any of our catering orders or cakes tended to by Amber...then we implore you to help where you can. 

This fundraising goal is equitable to two weeks payroll and is entirely intended to be distributed to staff and will not be used towards upgrades, food costs, or anything of the like.
