Hi, my name is Lorena M. Ortega and I am raising funds for my dear friend and community steward, Stacy Massey. Stacy and I met online over eight years ago when we each were looking for ways to support those in need in our local community of Huntington Beach. It was obvious to me very early on that she was the type of person who would look out for the wellbeing of others before putting her needs first.

Stacy, along with a small group of amazing community stewards, created a non-profit organization called Unity Impact. As a proud board member of this non-profit, I have seen firsthand all that Stacy has done to support both local and country-wide efforts following natural disasters: some of you may even remember our efforts in bringing Huntington Beach residents together for our #HBHelpsTexas and #HBHelpsHouston donation drive after the hurricanes ravaged many parts of Texas.

Early March Stacy fell down a flight of stairs and broke her back in two places. She cracked her CO2 tailbone both vertically and horizontally. Stacy has been off of work for six weeks with no sign of disability insurance as a supplement. When, and if, the disability insurance kicks in ... it will only be about 2/3 of her usual income.

Average recovery time for a broken tailbone is 4-6 months, but she is hoping to go back to work much sooner than that (2-3 months). However, because Stacy's employment involves sitting for prolonged periods of time taking customer service calls, her doctor wants her to be cautious about the amount of hours she can work weekly so as not to damage the tailbone in its healing.

Due to her injuries and subsequent recovery time, Stacy has been without income for two months. She has delayed some monthly bills temporarily, due to the injury, but the day to day costs can't be put off.

Stacy lost her business during COVID, and has been living off a much lower income job for the last two years, leaving her with an even more precarious road to recovery.
