Stacy Wright's Fight Breast Cancer Fund
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Stacy, and I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Those are two very scary words when you're only 49. Within a matter of weeks I've had extra mammograms, a biopsy, MRIs, given blood to get a genetic screening, and met with an enormous team of doctors and surgeons to discuss my treatment options and figure out how to pay for everything!
While I do have health insurance, it's not very good insurance at all. I've been told that my share of the cost for 1 round of radiation (4 weeks, 1 time a day, 5 days a week= 20 doses) is $4550. That's just for the radiation! There's also the surgical removal of the cancer, any reconstruction necessary afterward, 5 years minimum on a drug such as tamoxifen, follow-up visits with the oncologists... The list goes on and on and it's frightening in its total costs!
I've gone to over 70 different cancer and breast cancer non-profit websites, looking for financial assistance and grants. The majority of non-profits that provide grants or assistance for breast cancer patients have used up all their funding for the 2021 year already. Some of those sites allow you to get on a wait list. A lot of them do not. The few sites that do still have funding available have eligibility criteria that I don't meet- each non-profit determines a maximum annual household income level that you must be under.
I don't qualify. My husband and I have a combined income that puts us in the very low middle class range. I make too much to qualify for a lot of the grants and assistance that's available, but not enough to be able to afford to pay for my treatment without financially destroying both our finances and credit for years to come!
The situation I find myself in is the most stressful situation I've ever faced. I'm hoping that those of you who have been through a similar medical crisis, or know someone who has been through a similar crisis, can find it in your heart to help me get through this.
Any money that's left over after I've paid for all of my treatment, I plan on donating to one or more breast cancer non-profits, and the monies will be specifically earmarked to be awarded ONLY in October, November, or December of that year. That way, maybe we'll all be able to help another woman who receives a late in the year diagnosis get her much needed financial assistance!
Thank you everyone! Bless you all!
