So, I don't really know where to begin with this kind of thing; but thought I'd give it a shot because I know my mother would try anything to help others. Here goes:
My name is Bria Mears and this is my mother, Stacey Mears, and I.

It's hard to find pictures of her, because she doesn't really like the way she looks in photos. But trust me, she's beautiful. An unstoppable force of energy who never stopped doing whatever she could for my me and my brothers to have everything we ever wanted - even without the funds to do so.

Years ago, my mother, Stacey, was diagnosed with a benign (thank God) brain tumor and had brain surgery to have it removed out of a tricky area (occipital lobe / cerebellum area). The surgery was a great success! You never would have known that she even had brain surgery!

However, about a year and a half ago today, my mother finished her "highly recommended" radiation treatment to prevent the tumor from coming back - and that's when the problems appeared.

She was at work and began to feel fatigued over the span of a few days (I actually remember laughing and saying, "Mom, everyone feels fatigued after work!" ) Not long after this, my mom was completely bedridden. Then she could barely walk to the bathroom. Then we brought her all her food. Then... she had a really scary seizure and was put into the hospital. From this point, my mother was no longer eating, talking, walking, or... really anything. She'd been in and out of hospitals for all the reasons you can think of (bed sores, too low blood sugar, lethargic symptoms, not eating, etc.).

It's been my family's worst nightmare. How could this bright, hard-working, all the festive parties-throwing woman all of a sudden not be able to even speak - within the span of a year.

Officially, they say she has "brain necrosis as a result of proton radiation treatment," or "radiation treatment effect."

However, it isn't all downhill from there. She's getting better now! After a long span of bad news after bad news, she's finally AWAKE for hours at a time during the day. She's finally EATING again (and is being weaned off the feeding tube), she's finally TALKING again (though she gets frustrated sometimes when we can't understand her). Slowly but surely, she's finally learning to WALK again! Everything is looking up.

(As for me, I'm currently in a situation where I'm paying all the bills; because she needs 24/7 care, my father can't work (or leave her unattended at all). I am finishing up my master's program at Drexel University and have been keeping us afloat with saved money from loans. Though, I can only be thankful that I've been put in a situation where I can help us.)

The only thing I am wishing for, this Christmas, is that I can repay my mother in the same way that she's taken care of everything we needed all of our lives. She deserves so much more. A month or so ago, she had emergency surgery to have all her teeth removed because her gums were swelling and she could barely open her mouth to talk or eat (just when she started doing these things again). Now that she's eating again, I would love for her to actually be able to chew her food (especially because I am throwing a Christmas party, so everyone can see her!), currently she's only eating soft foods. I would also love for her to be able to talk again, and maybe even feel pretty - I know she's really self-conscious about not having teeth and that it's making it hard for her to talk/fully pronounce words. I simply can't afford the thousand and some to buy it for her myself - so I thought that I should at least try this, because I know she would try anything to help me. I would use this money to present this gift to her; her teeth. Even though it seems like a simple thing that we take for granted...

I know it would change her outlook on life.

Donate if you can; if not, spreading the word would be nice, too! Thanks everyone.
