I have been diagnosed with a very rare and life-threatening birth defect (anomaly) called and Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery with a Kommerell's Diverticulum which can only be rectified with URGENT surgery.
In October 2019, I realized that swallowing simple food and even liquids was difficult. I kept feeling like I was constantly choking. After a series of tests which included an endoscopy, barium swallow and an MRI it was discovered that I have an aberrant right subclavian artery with an aneurysm on my aortic arch which is causing significant compression of my esophagus (the reason I cannot consume solid foods).
It turns out I was born with this condition, which remained dormant until now. It’s getting worse daily and there is a very real risk of rupture or dissection, which would be fatal.
I need urgent repair and reconstruction of my major arteries which involves having a right carotid artery bypass and the insertion of a stent/graft into the aortic arch which will help close of the aneurysm preventing it from causing the subclavian artery from dissecting from the aortic arch or rupturing.
Given the severity and unique nature of the surgery required, it cannot be done in Trinidad where I live. After much research we have located a hospital Albany Medical in the USA. The surgical procedure required costs approximately $232,000 USD or approximately $1,600,000 TTD.
This is way beyond my means and honestly daunting. All I want is to be able to lead a normal life, drink a cup of tea, eat a meal or a snack without choking. It is for this reason that I am pleading with you to assist me in whatever way you can to help me raise the funds to have this life saving surgery. I know times are uncertain and there is so much going on in the world right now, so I am thankful for you even taking the time to read this.
