Stacey grew up in East China with her parents, sister and two brothers. She moved to St. Clair in 2006 when she also joined Citizens First which later became Chemical Bank, where she currently works. Stacey has two amazing children. Lauren will be 16 in September and Jared is 14 and going into 9th grade. Stacey loves attending her children’s sporting events. She also loves going to Tigers games, concerts, gardening and spending time with her friends. She attends St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Clair. Stacey will turn 40 in November.
Three weeks ago Stacey started getting spontaneous bruising on her legs and arms. The bruises were not going away, and new ones were showing up every day. June 9th she went to ER to have the bruising checked out. After multiple blood draws it was determined that her white blood cell count, hemoglobin levels and platelet levers were all extremely low. The ER transferred her by ambulance to St. John Moross Hospital. Stacey then had multiple blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy for the next 24 hours.
On June 12th it was confirmed that she had APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia). Cancer of the white blood cells. The bone marrow biopsy showed that her bone marrow is 70% mutated. She began Chemo Therapy that day. Treatment for Stacey is intense. She must have Chemo treatments seven days a week for four weeks. After the four weeks are up, another bone marrow biopsy needs to be done to see where she stands. Then for the next six months, she will have Chemo five days a week for four weeks on and then have four weeks off and so on, until the six months are up. Then another bone marrow biopsy to (fingers crossed) show that she is in remission. Stacey must also take Chemo pills (eight a day) every day for the next three years.
Stacey’s treatments are done at the Cancer Center next to St. Johns Hospital. She has had two blood transfusions and three bags of platelets while at the hospital. Stacey was released on June 21st with a remission rate of 94%, which is very good.
