My name is Carrie. Stacey is my beloved sister-in-law. I don’t even like the word sister-in-law, as she is the sister I never had. What some of you may not know, is that earlier this year, Stacey found out she was in liver failure. She had completed the initial medical assessment requirements to be placed on the organ donor list. Further testing/imaging revealed that she had a small cancerous spot on her liver. Because of her cancer, she had to get that treated first to be eligible again for the liver organ donor list. She had to go through chemo immunotherapy treatments at U of M . She successfully completed 3 treatments. Sadly, on Monday October 20th, after she arrived at U of M in Ann Arbor for her 4th treatment , she went into cardiac arrest. Anyone who knows Stacey knows she knows how to make an entrance, and if she was going to go into cardiac arrest, she couldn’t have done it at a better time and place. Because she arrested at U of M, she received the best care the State of Michigan has to offer. They were able to get a heartbeat back for Stacey, but however it was not without a cost. Stacey is currently fighting for her life, she is on a ventilator, on dialysis, and having too many tests/procedures to name off. Stacey is a fighter, and is continuing to fight to be with us. She continues to improve a little each day, but right now we just need her to wake up. On top of this medical emergency, her husband Jeff lost his father 2 weeks prior. So while he grieves his father, he is watching his high school sweetheart fight for her life. As you can imagine these two tragedies have left the Healey family needing some financial assistance from our wonderful community. The Healey’s are a proud family, they would not ask the community for help if this was not an emergency. Not only is there missed time from work, there are expenses to stay by Stacey’s side as we take shifts, but the household bills still need to be paid. The realistic cost of being in the ICU at U of M is very expensive, and the bill is climbing daily. While we hope for a speedy recovery, the Drs have stated that realistically she has a slow, long road to recover. With this being said, the funds will go directly to her husband to pay household expenses, time off of work, travel expenses, and the many medical bills he will be receiving. It may also be used for rehab expenses along with any home modifications needed for Stacey when she does come home. I am doing this with Jeff’s permission. The Healey/Whitener families would like to humbly thank anyone who contributes. If you are unable to donate, that’s ok. If you could please continue to share our fundraiser as a way of helping the Healey family, we would greatly appreciate it!
