Stability for Briana's Children During Healing
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Briana Nichols. I'm a single mom of three amazing kids—Naiim (16), Yaanailah (7), and Yaasin (4). I’m about to undergo brain surgery for Chiari Malformation 1 decompression, duraplasty, and tonsillar coagulation. My recovery will require me to avoid lifting anything over 5 lbs for at least 8 weeks, and during this time, I won’t be able to work or drive. I’m deeply concerned about how my children will get to school.
Despite my efforts, the school denied my request for transportation assistance. I live 1.9 miles from the school, just under the 2-mile eligibility requirement. The only option is private busing, costing $75 per week—totaling around $2,400 for the remainder of the school year. This is beyond my means, especially after my income was cut due to health issues starting in April. I have applied for SSI and secured legal representation to help.
**Timeline of Events:**
- **December 2021:** Left Jacksonville for Miami for safety, living with my best friend.
- **2022:** Focused on my children's needs while starting a business and working on my healing.
- **2023:** Struggled to maintain stability, moving between hotels and Airbnbs.
- **October 2023:** Placed in a domestic violence shelter until February 2024.
- **February 2024:** My mother entered hospice care shortly after I moved.
- **March 2024:** My mother passed away, a devastating loss for our family.
- **April 2024:** Hospitalized and informed that my cerebral spinal fluid was not flowing properly; surgery was recommended.
- **May 2024:** Voluntarily surrender/repossession of vehicle, which I had purchased in February on the same day I found out my mom was placed in hospice to drive to see her.
I have faced significant challenges, and my health has declined due to my work as an Uber driver. I’ve been hospitalized several times since April, leading to this urgent surgery to prevent further risks.
Asking for help is difficult for me, but for my children, I am willing to do anything. They deserve stability and support during this time. I realize that this surgery will affect them, and I want to ease their anxiety.
I’m reaching out for assistance to ensure my children can continue their education while I recover. Your support would mean the world to us, providing peace of mind during this challenging time.
Thank you for your kindness,
Briana
