What I am doing:
I have been given the opportunity to train as a whitewater rafting guide on the Rio Marañon in Peru with Sierra Rios , a river conservation organization. This trip will provide international whitewater training and support Sierra Rios in their amazing preservation efforts, as well as, work in providing guide training for local inhabitants. The Rio Marañon currently has fifteen proposed dam sites that threaten to drown most of the river.
This money will allow me to spend 18 days on the Main Marañon and Jungle Pongos section learning about the river and working with Sierra Rios to help save what is described as The Grand Canyon of the Amazon.
How to Participate:
I ask for a minimum donation of $10 before Thanksgiving—that is less than the cost of popcorn and a movie (or a nice pitcher of beer). Of course, any amount is welcome and greatly appreciated.
Your donation will help protect a beautiful place and allow me to continue to work with an organization doing great things to defend the importance and magic of rivers.
About me:
A whitewater rafting guide for ARTA River Trips for the past four years. Through ARTA I have become devoted to rafting and river conservation, by guiding on wild and scenic rivers throughout the U.S. and I’d like to continue my training internationally. I am so thankful for the meaningful connections I have made during my time with ARTA and the ability to observe the moments in which people discover (or find again) the enchantment of the river. In order to keep these moments thriving, we need to care for the places that offer the experiences.
Currently, I am living in the Sacred Valley of Peru in a small village called Yucay. My friend Becca and I are volunteering at a guesthouse, called la Casa de Tres Osos until December and then I set off to save the river...but not without your help!
