Black Owned Restaurant Serving Free Meals to Kids

Donation protected
During these tough and uncertain times and in the midst of social injustice, we have witnessed how communities can come together. Growing up, I witnessed similar community support and outreach from my family. My Granny Rosa, in particular, led the charge by having her doors open to everyone. As a pillar in her community, she considered everyone as "kinfolk" and always helped those in need, whether by lending an ear or by providing a meal.

Her mantra was "no kid should go without." These words resonated deeply with the birth of my son, which led me to become an educator. I have dedicated my life to the needs of children, including my own. I feel it is my responsibility as a black man, an educator, a father and a son to help eliminate those needs by standing tall in my Granny's mantra. I know I can do this by providing quality, affordable food to the community and canceling the worry of feeding a child, by making sure children eat free everyday.

Some may see this statement as far fetched. However, it is very possible because I have seen my Granny do the same thing with much less. I remember her giving me her food stamp booklet, going to the grocery store, and coming back to see her feed everyone in the community that needed a meal, especially children. Her commitment to feeding the community and her love for children, led me to taking my life savings and acquiring a tiny house, which I gutted and revamped into "Rosa's Chicken & Waffles" where we recognize everyone as "kinfolk."

I can place Rosa's anywhere, in a rented property location, however a temporary placement would not align with the deeply rooted and permanent values my Granny instilled within me. Historically, in the south, a black man acquiring land is not widely seen, especially, one doing so to incorporate solidarity and fellowship among the people during difficult times as our grandmothers did before us.  I'm starting this campaign to eliminate overhead costs by purchasing land to place Rosa's in a permanent location so I can give as much as I can back to my community, provide free meals to all children and to ultimately change the perspective of the black man in the south and beyond.

Your contribution would be greatly appreciated, and I know my Granny would be very proud of me for carrying on her legacy and making it bigger than she ever imagined.
