On March 28th 2021 I took my mom to the emergency room at St Joseph Hospital for cellulitis on her foot. Very quickly her stay at the hospital turned into a nightmare. About 7 days later she began to have fever and her oxygen dropped, Doctors assumed it was Covid and isolated her for two weeks. During her isolation they performed many test and couldn’t get a diagnosis not even for Covid. Eventually her oxygen dropped to a point that she needed to be intubated at this time
they were able to collect samples directly from her lungs that determined that she had stenotrophomonas maltiphilia a pneumonia that she contracted during her stay at the hospital. This was only the beginning of it all. This rare pneumonia caused her two collapsed lungs, A lung surgery, Intubation twice, because of the complications with her lungs they weren’t properly caring for the cellulitis causing her to need amputation, The second intubation caused her to need a tracheostomy. Not only did she have to deal with this pneumonia but also with neglectful staff in the hospital my mom developed a 4th degree pressure ulcer on her bottom only two months into her stay. There is So much that happen during my moms hospitalization . She didn’t deserve to have to fight so hard but she did, and she conquered all of those obstacles even when the doctors said she wouldn’t. she finally started to recover but god needed her and called her home on October 2nd 2021, and its hard to watch someone you love fight so hard. I was by her side through all of it. I watched almost every peace of her get snatched away her ability to walk, talk, eat, but she just kept fighting. A fighter like her deserves a decent service so anything counts and is greatly appreciated.
