An unfortunate event of a volcanic eruption has devastated the island of St Vincent and The Grenadines (SVG). Continuing to erupt, it is likely to continue for days, possibly even weeks. The aftermath though will be felt for years to come.
Prior to the eruption on 9 April 2021 the volcano had lay dormant and not been active since its last eruption in April 1979, where thousands of residents were evacuated. Since the eruption this year, tens of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes and moved into shelters. Coupled with this, many families have lost their houses, farming land and more importantly, their revenue. Further still, basic amenities are now in short supply. Along with a small team from 23 Amphibious Engineer Squadron located here in Germany, I have created this go fund me page to help acquire donations to assist the families of our SVG colleagues, there are approximately 600 Vincentians serving across the three services with many more from the Caribbean.
All funds raised will go to our military colleagues in the UK who are purchasing items in bulk and then shipping them (via sea container) to those in need. Items include: food, clothes, sanitary products, baby products, bedding, medical supplies and toiletries. Some of your donations may also assist with shipping the supplies to SVG, sadly we have not found a benefactor who will cover this… yet. This fund raiser is also linked to the drive HELPSVGUK and SVG Veterans UK Community so part of a wider effort to support those affected.
No one is to blame for a natural disaster, these things sadly happen. So, with tearful eyes I plead for your support of any donation that will go towards helping the friends and families of our SVG colleagues.
In advance of your generosity, thank you.
