Dear network,
I have organized a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of St. Mathew Primary School in Buhoma, Uganda. It is located in the vicinity of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, which some of you may know is one of the few places where the mountain gorillas roam. The school has asked me to coordinate this campaign given that GoFundMe cannot currently send Ugandan shillings. Thus, the plan is that I will collect the funds raised in Euros and then send to the school in Ugandan shillings using Wise.
Background on my relationship with the school: While traveling in Uganda in 2021, I visited the community and school, where they asked me if I would consider sponsoring a child's school fees, as he would be unable to attend otherwise. After a few months of further discussions and vetting, I agreed to sponsor little Mathias, who I have been supporting since then as he continues to excel in school. He is 11 years old now and particularly interested in math and English!
Please see below message from the school regarding the need for urgent funds for additional beds. They have several other improvement projects requiring funds as well. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more info on getting involved with the school. Thanks a mil in advance for your support!
"St Mathew primary school is a community based project that started in the year 1991. It was started by the community people to help the poor of the poorest families, i.e. orphans and vulnerable children who are growing up in extreme poverty, and wouldn’t afford paying high school fees in other schools, and the nearest government school was 7km away from this locality, which wasn’t easy for the children to walk on a daily basis to attend their lessons.
The school has kindergarten and primary sections with both day and boarding sections. However, it’s very unfortunate and touching that our children still sleep on the floor, for that we don’t have beds enough for them all."
