St. Marie Mold Recovery Fund

Dear Family and Friends,

We recently had to leave most of our belonging behind and move into an apartment due to significant mold discovered in our home. This was a decision made after much research and inspections from three separate mold inspection companies. 

Due to the risk of contaminating our new space, we were advised not to bring any furniture, pillows, books, or any devices with a fan such as our microwave, TV, computer, etc.

 We created this Go Fund Me because of the costs of testing our home and medical, relocation, and repair/rebuild expenses:

·         Inspections by 3 companies and one further test needed to evaluate the foundation

·         Apartment and security deposit while still paying our home mortgage and basic utilities

·         Medical expenses for Mark, Kenny and Melody not covered by insurance to recover from the effects of mold exposure.

·         Cost of furnishing our apartment and restoring or replacing personal items not safe to bring into our new space

·         Cost of disposal of furniture/items not salvageable

·         Home repairs if foundation test shows the foundation is sound; otherwise we’re considering rebuilding on the current site.  Based on tests to date, at a minimum, we need to bring the first floor down to the studs, including our kitchen and main bath and may need to replace some appliances. Remediation is expected on the second level as well.

·         Our home insurance specifically excludes mold. Zero coverage!

 Thanks to many of you who have already helped us with moving. We also want to give a shout out to a local non-profit, Faith in Action, and Becker Furniture World who assisted with furniture. In addition, Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church donated quilts and Salvation Army covered part of our first month’s rent.
