My Tour De 4 Fundraiser to support St. Luke's Hospice
On the 10th May, this year, I lost my beloved wife, Sarah, following an 18 month battle with colon cancer. Unfortunately, at the point of diagnosis, the disease was already at stage 4 and, therefore, no curative treatment could have been considered but palliative chemotherapy was able, for a year, to control and limit the progression, providing comfort and quality of life.
Sarah faced her illness admirably, from initial diagnosis through to ultimate prognosis. She was stoic, impressive, not once self-pitying and she maximised the time she had with friends and family. I was, and will always remain, so proud of her mentality and the approach that she took in facing the harshest of realities.
Sir Chris Hoy, suffering a similar prognosis from stage 4 cancer, has proven inspirational and brave enough to organise Tour de 4, which will take place in Glasgow, on 7th September, to help change perceptions around stage 4 cancer, following his own diagnosis. As such, I will be riding the 56 mile red ride, in honour of Sarah, with her full approval to, fundamentally, raise money for St. Luke's Hospice.
St. Luke's Hospice was pivotal in ensuring that Sarah was able to feel well, safe, and provided a sense of home. As her symptoms progressed, the hospice kept Sarah comfortable, eradicated her sickness, her nausea and treated her with tenderness, kindness and, above all, respect.
St. Luke's Hospice, ultimately, allowed Sarah to pass with dignity and pride and, for that alone, I would humbly request that this wonderful charity is supported by any kind donation that you may be able to provide.
With love and utmost gratitude,
Greg
