Welcome to St. John's. This is a place of love and hope and safety and forgiveness. We will be food for the hungry. Living water for the thirsty. We are so glad you are here. You are invited. You are loved. Come on in—we’ve been waiting for you. You are welcome here. We are the church.

Dear friends of Jesus, we are a small, but vibrant, congregation in downtown New Britain, Connecticut. We are St. John’s Lutheran Church and have been serving our community for over 125 years and hope to continue doing God's work in this place. However, like so many inner city congregations, we need help to succeed in our mission to serve those in need.

We actively reach out to those in the community by working to clothe those who cannot afford to buy winter coats, school uniforms, work attire, and the like. We call this ministry Love thy Neighbor. We collect, purchase and distribute these items many times during the year. We also provide a hot meal, food to go, various supplies and children's activities during these distributions. We support community organizations to help care for others in ways that we would be unable to do alone. We take the call of Jesus to care for others very seriously and would be able to do much more if we were financially secure.

Other community organizations we support for the good of our community include local food pantries, the Friendship Center which is a homeless shelter for individuals and provides meals every day to residents and nonresidents, the Salvation Army and Pathways/Senderos, a community based organization that aims "to eliminate teen pregnancy by addressing its root causes, assuring high school graduation and promoting adult self-sufficiency. We also support the Prudence Crandall Center, which assists women, men and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Our building needs significant repairs. We hope to raise $100,000 to continue our joint ministry. Please partner with us so we can continue the work of Jesus in this place. Thank you and God bless and keep you now and always!
