We are seeking to raise £290,000 to secure the future of St Helen’s Church - making it a warm, energy-efficient, and sustainable space for generations to come.
St Helen’s has long been a place of heritage, worship, and community. But today, the building faces a practical challenge: it is often uncomfortably cold. Our current heating system is no longer fit for purpose, leaving the space inefficient to run and unwelcoming during colder months. This not only impacts those who gather here, but also increases our environmental footprint.
We believe that a warm, inviting space is essential to fostering community life. Creating an environment where people feel comfortable encourages attendance, supports local activities, and strengthens connections. Offering a genuine, warm welcome is at the heart of our vision.
To address this, we are planning a two-phase improvement project:
Phase 1: Installation of a Modern Infrared Heating and Lighting System
This system provides direct, radiant heat exactly where it’s needed, making it highly efficient and environmentally responsible, with no wasted energy. It will ensure consistent, year-round warmth and comfort. Similar systems are already successfully used in historic buildings, including major cathedrals and parish churches.
This will cost approximately £214,000
Phase 2: Heritage-Sensitive Solar Panels
We aim to generate clean, renewable energy while respecting the historic character of our church. These panels will be carefully designed and installed to complement the building’s architecture, ensuring they are discreet and in keeping with its heritage. This step will also help us contribute to the Church of England’s Net Zero 2030 goals and take responsibility for caring for creation.
This will cost approximately £50,000
The remaining £26,000 is to give us a 10% contingency.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help us move closer to transforming St Helen’s into a sustainable and welcoming space for all.
Thank you for your support - your generosity will make a lasting difference to our church and community.
