St Andrew's Academy is a Secondary Specialist setting within Derby. We are very proud of the 170 young people that attend our provision, working hard to build independence and overcome all barriers to learning and accessing the world around them. We are a team of 100 dedicated specialist staff who work tirelessly to champion our young people and afford them the inclusive opportunities that they deserve. https://standrewsacademy.co.uk/ Our offer is excelled by our Trust Dividend as we are one of 32 schools within Shaw Education Trust Nationwide who provide incredible support and resource.
Alongside our pupils, their families, our staff and Trust family, we form a unique and beautiful community with a shared goal of ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be successful, whatever their starting point in life.
Nearly 1 in 2 people (approximately 50%) born in the UK after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. Over 420,000 new cases are diagnosed annually, with over 3.5 million people currently living with a cancer diagnosis. Sadly, statistically, with a community of our size, that means that we have seen, and continue to see, the direct impact of all forms of cancer.
Without exception, every diagnosis and impact of cancer that we have felt has unanimously come with stories of the important and stunning work that Macmillan do with patients and their families. St Andrew's Academy strongly aligns with their inclusive mission statement: We're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are.
Therefore, to stand shoulder to shoulder with Macmillan, in recognition and celebration of their service, we are hosting a fund raising afternoon to financially contribute to their mission but most importantly to stand up to cancer and use this opportunity to come together as a community, raise awareness and channel the challenge positively with love and connection.
The fund raiser will be held at St Andrew's Academy Main Site DE21 4EW Friday 1st May 2026 1:30-3:00pm with those Braving the Shave under the clippers at 2:45m. The event will hold many stalls, food and drink hosted by our school and other local supporting schools. Friday 1st May holds special significance for our school community, being 10 years to the day that we lost an exceptional lady and selfless Teaching Assistant Roz Gregory following her brave battle with cancer. We host this event in her honor and treasured memory.
