Ashley was diagnosed with Stage 5 kidney disease in 2021, and soon after, her life became tethered to dialysis and her future filled with uncertainty. In early 2025, after almost 3 years on dialysis, she reluctantly agreed to let a small group of friends help her find a kidney donor. We made a video, shared with the community, and everything changed. More than 300 people reached out to be screened as potential donors. Our slogan was “A Match For Ashley: Are You the One?” And she found the one.
After a long screening process, her donor, Nicholas (Nick) Wilt, was approved in late August. In late October, Ashley and Nick went through the kidney transplant surgery, and Ashley now has a second chance at life. She lovingly named her new kidney “Patrick.”
While surgery was a success, recovery has been very complicated. Ashley now takes an overwhelming number of medications every day—each with its own intense side effects, and together presenting new hurdles daily. She has faced all of it with her trademark strength, grace, and world class sense of humor.
These medications are non-negotiable. They are what keep Ashley’s body from rejecting her new kidney. They are lifesaving. And they are extraordinarily expensive.
Just one of the eight prescription medications Ashley must take for the next six months (and some for the rest of her life) costs $5,000 per month. While Ashley’s insurance covers part of her medical expenses, it doesn’t come close to covering everything—and the costs required for her to simply live comfortably continue to climb. That’s why we’ve launched this new campaign: to help give Ashley the financial cushion she needs as she focuses on healing and rebuilding her life.
Ashley has always been the helper—the one who shows up, the one who cares for and defends others, and now she needs our support so she can heal and recover. Our last campaign asked, “Are you the one?” This time, we’re asking whether you can be one of the many who pitch in to support Ashley. This time all of us can chip in to help care for Ashley.
