After returning from a nearly 7 month deployment on 08 April 2019, Richard aka “Dick” was finally able to rejoin his wife and two kids. His wife and kids were staying in Utah during his deployment and he made a short trip to see them before returning to San Diego to get back to the grind at work. When he got back, he began the process of emptying out his storage and moving into an apartment on 26 April. On 27 April he and a fellow Marine were on their way to a group motorcycle ride when Dick’s bike lost control and he was forced to lay it down coming off of an on ramp onto the expressway. He slid across to the slow lane and was working to get back to his feet when he was struck by a vehicle going approximately 65 MPH.
This was the epitome of an accident. It was determined that Dick had not violated speed laws and through witness testimony he wasn’t doing anything wild or showing off. He was wearing all of the appropriate motorcycle equipment to include a helmet. Unfortunately he just hit a patch of road that caused his bike to slide out on him. It was early morning (approximately 430AM) and the fog was thick. The young driver who struck him never even saw him due to the heavy fog. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
We are working to host a golf tournament on July 3rd and all funds raised there will be given to his family to assist with covering unexpected costs as a result of the accident. His family has been absolutely put through the wringer. Anything you can do to help his family offset some costs is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your time and your consideration. Rest assured, everything raised here will be distributed to his wife and their two children.
