South San Francisco High School Fundraising to Play at Carnegie Hall
Hi Everyone!
We are part of the South San Francisco High School’s band program. After working very hard this past year to put together an audition tape, the South San Francisco High School Symphonic Band was recently accepted to play at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in its annual National Band and Orchestra Festival in New York City this coming April. This event is a once in a lifetime experience, as the festival only accepts twelve bands from the whole United States to play in it.
Consisting of a four day, three night trip, our band will be able to tour New York City, watch a Broadway musical, and perform at Carnegie Hall — some things that we may not get the opportunity to do in our lifetime. This trip would be a dream come true not only for all of us band students (especially our seniors, since this is their last chance to take a trip with the band), but for our hard working band director, Dan Talbert, whose lifelong dream is to conduct a band at this prestigious event.
However, coming from a blue-collar neighborhood, most of our band students are unable to afford this trip — which averages around $1,500 (fifteen hundred dollars) per student for all expenses — about $100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars) in total. This event also requires at least 50 students to perform with the group, making the current financial situation all the more urgent. The band students and parents have been working tirelessly to fundraise for this trip.
We will not only be representing South San Francisco High School, but the city and communities of South City as well. We ask for your support in helping us with this most memorable trip of our lifetimes.
Thank you for your time and contribution!
Sincerely,
South San Francisco High School Band Program
