Help a Sailor save his family home

Donation protected
My name is Jon. I'm a 2nd Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy, and I am on the brink of losing my family home in Lynchurg, VA to foreclosure. Before I enlisted, I was told that my debt to income ratio was too high because of my mortgage. So I was given the option to sell it or rent it. Due to the economy and housing market at the time, I was unable to sell, and forced to rent. I wanted to serve my country, no matter what the cost.

I took a leap of good faith in humanity after interviewing a number of potential tenants, and I chose poorly. The first year was spotty, and I had to pay the difference on multiple occasions where rent was paid late. Once I left for a 9 month deployment in July of 2012, my tenants stopped paying me all together. Being far away, I tried to seek help from my legal department and was turned away because of the Government sequester.

My tenants stayed illegally in my house for 7 months without paying. To this day I have been struggling with this, and my mortgage company isn't going to stand for this much longer. I'm not asking for assistance as a service member, I am asking for assistance as a father, a husband, and a hard working American.

I am in need of assistance so that I do not lose my family home. It is vacant now because I am scared to move my wife and children back into the house only to have it foreclose on them. My beautiful wife, Kaci, deserves to be back at home where her support network is until I finish my final tour, where I intend on going back home to set things right. I need help to do this, as I am not in a good position to take ahold of this debt by myself.

Even this is just a stepping stone to what I need to pay, but it's a step in the right direction to fix what has been broken. My children deserve their space, and their own rooms. This house was purchased with the intent on staying there and raising my family in a good area. Because of recent events and multiple deaths in the family, my wife has decided to move in with family back home. So I have removed our belongings from our house in Virginia Beach, so I can start saving to put towards our family home.

This is my last resort, as I am not one to ask or beg for help. However, when I look at my wife and children, I know what they deserve, and they deserve to have their home back until I return from active duty. If anyone out there can help me, it would be greatly appreciated, and I will never forget the kind gesture. I love my family, I love my country, I take pride and honor in serving in the greatest military in the world, and I am humbled by my fellow Americans.

Thank each and every one of you, and God bless.

Very Respectfully,

-GM2(SW) Jon S.
