SSA Mistake Put Us on the Brink of Foreclosure
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Madison, and I'm disabled. I live with my grandparents, who are also disabled, and we were already barely scraping by. About 2 months ago, the Social Security Administration sent $12,000 to the wrong account; my grandfather’s instead of mine. We had no idea the money was coming, and by the time we found out (a full week later due to delayed mail, part of the Mid-South storm at the start of April), part of it had already been spent by mistake.
SSA demanded I return it, even though I never touched it. I tried calling, I got legal help, I filled out every form. But SSA refused to talk to my attorney and insisted I was responsible.
We did everything we could. We returned most of the money. But now
- I have 23 cents in my bank account.
- My grandfather has $27, my grandmother about $200.
- We're two mortgage payments behind and on the edge of foreclosure.
I’m setting up this GoFundMe as a last resort. We just need enough to catch up on the mortgage and keep the lights on while we recover. Any help you can give, literally anything, would mean the world to us.
