Dear Friends,
On the 6th of June of this year, I will be graduating from high school at Donahue Academy. This news is truly exciting for me, and I look forward to live out this new chapter of my life! Finding the right college plan for me has proved to be a taxing process. Nevertheless, after much prayer and good advice from my peers, I have been given the graces to realize the plans God might have in store for me.
If I am anything, I am an artist. Ever since I was little, drawing, painting, and creating was my passion. I have never had many doubts about my wish to share my gifts with the world, or to express what I know and love through those talents. My imagination, where I create people, creatures, worlds, stories, and pictures, is where I feel most at home. I have had much practice with traditional mediums, such as charcoal, oil paint, and colored pencils; however, I also wish to improve my computer skills with animation and digital art for films or video games. To animate and create characters and stories for companies like Disney or Pixar is my dream, and now that I am becoming an adult, and pursuing the fulfillment of the things God has planned for my life, I truly feel that going to an art school someday is something I am meant to do.
While looking at various art schools, I came upon one school that genuinely captured my interest. This art school, Ringling College of Art + Design, is located in Sarasota, Florida, and last month, I was able to attend their annual National Portfolio Day. The experience I had there was eye-opening, and the privilege of having my art critiqued by professional artists raised my self-confidence, and kindled an even bigger desire to share my talent with others. Amazing opportunities are given at Ringling, mostly because there are recruiters, who come from companies like Disney, Blue Sky, and such, that interview students for jobs. Having those connections would be very helpful if I were to bring my art into a career. If it is God’s will for me, I hope to study art there someday.
As it turns out, Ringling holds a Pre-College Summer Program for graduating junior and senior students who wish to experience the of life of an art student by going to workshops, and by accomplishing personal and group project based on those workshops. Students who are enrolled in the program stay at Ringling for four weeks (June 21-July 18), in the dorms, and are able to “try on” various areas of art and design taught by professionals, and cooperate with other students who are involved in the same area. Overall, this program is meant to give the student a well-rounded experience of Ringling School. For those who complete the program are given three college elective credits, which would be a valuable thing for me to have as I proceed with my talent.
The program’s cost is a total of $5,695, which includes the application fee, program deposit and tuition, room and board, and all art supplies. Unfortunately, this cost is too large for me or my family to accommodate for, considering I am the oldest of five younger siblings, who all need providing for. Nevertheless, I have not given up on attempting to raise the funds for me to go, and have managed to come up with $2,100 so far.
I am truly passionate about my desire to bring my art into the world, and I feel that this program will be able to aid my decision about where I will take my talent. With perseverance, I have been searching for scholarships and other means of raising enough money for the tuition. It would mean the world to me if I were given this opportunity to experience Ringling. I humbly ask for any sort of donation that could allow me to attend this program. I also ask for your prayers, as I continue to discern God's plan for my life.
I sincerely believe that God has given me my talent for a purpose. Whether that purpose is to be fulfilled in a big company like Disney or in a side career, I am convinced that sharing my art and thoughts with others is in His plans for me. I have always done art. I have always used my imagination as my most prized gift. And I firmly believe that art and storytelling through media can quench the world’s thirst for Truth, Beauty, and Hope. I strongly believe that attending Ringling’s Pre-College Summer Program will not only give me an introduction to the art departments I am interested in, but also give me a special opportunity to connect with other people who share the same desires and interests and to push myself to become a disciplined, well-rounded person.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! It means a lot to me. Below I have attatched a brief video that explains the program.
