My mom, Lori Weber, was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer December 16, 2022. She started chemo the next day and had four rounds, the last one being in March. Afterwards she continued on with immunotherapy. And now here we are, 2 months after the last round of chemo, she was taken to the ER with a complaint of leg weakness. After some MRIs and a CT Scan, it was determined that the cancer has started to come back and is now in her spinal fluid, affecting her spinal cord. They say she had a spinal stroke and that is why her left leg is now paralyzed. Her oncologist said there is nothing more he can do and wants to send her to hospice. I, her daughter Nikki, refuse to accept this at face value and after doing extensive research, my Aunt Linda and I found Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL that has clinical trials for leptomeningeal metastases (cancer in the spinal fluid). She was given an appt right away and we will fly there next week for a consult. What I am asking for is help to cover her medical bills, travel expenses, medical equipment (she is now wheelchair bound), any items that we will need to install in her house to help her be self reliant. She is on many supplements that aren't cheap. We would like to get her a motorized wheelchair so she can still chase down the grandkids when they don't listen! My mom is still in good spirits and has no major complaints except her leg paralysis. She sends her love and is looking forward to supervising the planting of her garden soon. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
