My son Elliott was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 2 years old, this was 3 years ago! This quite literally changed our lives over night with the constant injections, the weighing of food, remembering to have all of his medication with us at all times and checking blood glucose levels, but that's just from our point of view. Overnight, Elliott, at 2 years old had to get used to having finger pricks every at 2 hours and up to 10 injections of insulin a day, every time he wanted food he'd have to be taken to the side away from his friends and injected so he could eat.
Now it is easier with an insulin pump and a blood sugar sensor, but he still has to have these changed every 3 and 10 days.
He is always wondering why he isn't "normal" like the other children and gets very upset whenever he talks about having diabetes for the rest of his life (which is heart breaking) so I'm doing this to help towards children and adults to not have to live with this horrible disease.
So:
My name is Jake, I'm looking to raise awareness and money towards finding a cure for type 1 diabetes, the charity the money will be going to is:
Breakthrough T1D. (formerly JDRF)
Myself and 2 of my close friends Jack and James will be climbing up and down Scafell Pike (lake district) and then cycling 300 miles back to Gloucester.
We will also be giving 30% of the money raised to a christian missionairy hospital in Madagascar who deal with people who have type 1 diabetes.
These people don't have the medicine as readily available as we do, and also share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone who is admitted.
Thank you for taking the time to look at what I'm am doing and for any donation received.
