“When we lose someone we love we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind”. -unknown
My Tia Milagros was a fighter, by far one of the strongest, most fearless yet sweetest and loving women I’ve ever known. She was selfless, lion-hearted, protective, strong-willed and absolutely crazy about her son Danny. We called her Chiqui, but nothing about her was small, however. Her personality was HUGE, her laugh and smile even BIGGER, but nothing compared to the MASSIVENESS of her heart. There was not a single selfish bone in her body. She never hesitated to go above and beyond for others. She was a genuinely kind and nurturing soul full of LOVE.
The day she became a mother she vowed to always do everything in her power to shield him from all possible danger, even if meant sacrificing her safety. On December 19th her life was tragically cut short in a catastrophic event that forever changed the lives of her son Danny, her husband John, her mother Etelvina, her sister Maria, her brother Carlos, her niece Jackie and everyone she’s ever reached in this lifetime.
Milagros picked Danny up from work around 2:32am and on the drive home, a pick truck allegedly ran the red light and struck the passenger side of the vehicle (Danny’s side), causing it to completely cave in. The impact was so strong it launched their vehicle into a fire hydrant then into a light pole that ultimately took my aunt’s life. Looking at the vehicle, it’s hard to comprehend how my cousin Danny survived this. There is no doubt in my mind and heart that even during this unforeseen tragedy, she somehow protected her son and gave him a second chance to live. She wouldn’t want it any other way. Her son was her most precious cargo since the day he was born.
To know Milagros is to know LOVE. She was a devoted nurse at Kaiser Permanente and was adored by all her patients and co-workers. She left an imprint on so many hearts and we continue to learn about the lives she impacted from the overwhelming amount of messages, calls, emails and visits. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life and her son Daniel’s life as he too was impacted by this tragic event in many ways. Daniel suffers from internal bleeding and head trauma and will soon undergo physical therapy. We are so grateful and thankful to have my cousin with us. We stand together to celebrate their lives and need your help to organize a beautiful ceremony for my Tia Chiqui and help with Danny’s medical expenses. Our family appreciates any amount you can donate. Thank you.
Some of her best sayings:
“God Bless America and a Happy New Year!” - usually when brushing someone off. Her attempt at sarcasm hehe.
“Worry about things you can control, not about things you can’t”
