Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee were hit incredibly hard by Hurricane Helene. My name is Sarah, and this is my hometown. My family still lives in the area and my mom, Karen, had her home and property severely damaged by landslides and the storm.
Karen lives on a mountainside near Banner Elk, North Carolina. On Friday, September 27th, a landslide filled her property with mud, rushing waters, and fallen trees. She was stuck within the house for days without power due to road damage both to her road and the primary highway at the base of her driveway that would take her to safety.
By the grace and protection of God, my mom remained safe as trees around her fell towards the house and 30 inches of water undermined the foundation of the house. Without mitigation, fallen trees will continue to slide down the hill.
Karen needs to reinforce the hillside with retaining walls and water management infrastructure to protect her home and secure the foundation so she can move onto repairing her home. The cost is estimated to be $100k+ and with your generous help and support we will be able to move forward and begin putting our lives and home back together. It is a long journey and all support is incredibly appreciated. This money will be used to secure the property and the structure of the house.
