Hello Dearest Hearts. My name is Suzanne Mendenhall and I really need your help. I need to urgently raise $5,000 . I thought I would never have to do something like GoFundMe. Thank goodness this program is here for people needing to reach out and say “Please help”.
My story is this….early in 2015 I had to leave a job that I loved in many ways, a most extraordinary position that was awesome AND super crazy stressful (supporting a department in a hospital that forensically tended to over 700 children and adult sexual assault cases a year!). I really thought I would retire from this job at age 70. But that was not meant to be. My body came to a screeching halt at age 64 1/2. Imagine my surprise. My body could no longer manage the intensity and workload of each work day and I became ill. My thinking was that I would take 2-3 months for R&R and then find a less stressful, "fun" job. Surprise again...that didn’t happen. So, I went out early on social security retirement. Unfortunately that monthly amount does not cover all of the normal month-to-month expenses. I ended up having to use my one and only credit card to make up the difference each month. Now it is max’d out. (Such a challenge these days to keep up with increasing rents/mortgages, utilities, gas, insurance and its higher deductibles and co-pays...plus I just got my annual notice of a rent increase coming up!)
I spent this week consulting with bankruptcy attorneys, elder advocates and law societies/agencies that help seniors as well as the various non-profit agencies in my county and have determined that the healthiest route for me to get back on track is to file a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. The $5,000 that I am needing assistance with obtaining is to cover the Bankruptcy filing fee ($2,000 -- urgently needed to stop the madness) and the rest is to cover the normal monthly financial responsibilities (utilities, phone, medications and co-pays, etc.) over the next 3 months. (It takes 3 months for a Bankruptcy to finalize.)
I do live very simply in a small yet sweet senior apartment, I have whittled everything down to just the basics and I watch every penny I spend. I am trying REALLY hard to make ends meet.
So, I most humbly ask you, PLEASE, anything you can give to help me get through these next 3 months as I shared above would be so greatly appreciated. Towards the end of the next 3 months I will no longer have a car payment/car insurance/parking spot fee or gasoline to worry about nor a max’d out credit card...yay!... and so I will then be able to make it on my monthly social security payment (another "yay!")
I am a good, responsible, and caring woman who just needs helping hands to lift me over the big boulder in the road so that I can continue on this magnificent journey called Life, and start skipping again.
