Sri Ranga Janardhana Medical Help
This is Sri Ranga Janardhana. He is from a small town outside of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India called Kengeri. He is the second child out of three to father Ramanuja Bhattar and mother Ramamani Bhattar. His older sister's name is Sushmitha and younger brother's name is Bhadri. Sri Ranga was like any 17 year old kid in India, he loved riding his bike, playing cricket and tennis with his friends and climbing anything that he felt he could conquer. Around the house, he was always a big help to his mother and others, he helped with chores, cooking and getting everyone in his household whatever they needed. However, on April 15, 2018 Sri Ranga's and those dearest to him had their lives changed forever.
On the way to family function in Devarayanadurga , Karnataka, India, the car they were traveling in was struck by a Tata Sumo, equivalent to a pickup truck in the United States. The cars front left end, passenger side in India, was completely obliterated. This happened to be where Sri Raga and his uncle Sheshadri where sitting. Both were rushed to Nelamangala General Hospital while others in the car sustained minor injuries. Sheshadri sustained a partial fracture in his tibial bone (one of two bones connecting knee to foot). He was later able to make a full recovery with minor correction surgery. Unfortunately, Sri Ranga was not as lucky. He had suffered a complete fracture in his left tibial and fibular bones (both bones that connect knee to foot). Doctors at the local hospital had to perform immediate emergency surgery to repair the damage that had been sustained. Multiple rods and pins were used to correct the injury. The surgery cost the family upwards of Rs.1,60,00 lakhs (rupees), equivalent to $2,230.40 US dollars. The family stayed at the hospital for three days while Sri Ranga recovered but were not satisfied by the treatment and care they were receiving at this hospital.
His family then transferred him to MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru. Once arrived at the hospital the family was informed by doctors that the leg had become completely septic (infected). If no action was taken it could affect the function of his kidneys and other organs. With the advise of the doctors his family proceeded with the surgery for a complete leg amputation. This surgery was very expensive costing the family Rs.4,00,000 lakhs (rupees) or $5,576 US dollars. The family had to create monthly payment plans that they are still struggling to pay off currently.
Even with all the tragic and unfortunate events, it has not changed the outlook Sri Ranga has on life. Sri Ranga passed on the opportunity to attend college because he was self conscious of what others might say or think of him. In response to that, he now works at his fathers temple as a priest and helps his family in paying for his medical expenses as well as other household items. He currently has a temporary plastic prosthetic leg to help him get around. This leg however, constantly needs to be repaired, requires other accessory parts because they keep busting and causes a lot of pain and discomfort when he is wearing it. Since he is only 18 years old, doctors have advised the family to invest in a advanced prosthetic leg. This leg would allow him to have a better quality of life and daily function. The estimated cost of this leg would be Rs.6,70,000 lakhs (rupees) which is equivalent to $9,339.80 US dollars. High price of this leg is primarily due to that it is a permanent solution to amputees and will also greatly reduce the number of problems that arise from it in the future.
With all this Sri Ranga, his dear family and I humbly request that you help in any way possible. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated in giving our boy a relatively normal lifestyle.
