Underground Rave Culture Sri Lanka: A Documentary
Donation protected
Borderline (working title) is a short form documentary exploring the growing underground rave scene in Sri Lanka. This youth-driven story incorporates intergenerational themes with the harsh contrast of conservative legislation and the counterculture of Sri Lanka. Within the timeframe of the film, we are witnessing the turning point of an emerging movement, making it an exciting, unsung tale poetically told through a youth-oriented lens.
The influence of drug use within the rave scene has put pressure on DJs as the President of Sri Lanka announced the return of capital punishment for drug dealers this July. 60% of inmates in Sri Lanka are convicted of drug-related crimes and 1,299 inmates are currently on death row. Subjects on both sides of the conflict will share their experiences in a riveting and controversial story of passion, music, and sacrifice.
The story follows a group of German DJs, led by a Sri Lanka native, on a journey to Sri Lanka with the goal of forming a record label and promoting underground rave culture in the capital of Sri Lanka. The film starts in Frankfurt where we are introduced to the group of DJs, and on the 6th of January, we follow them on their month-long journey to Sri Lanka.
We are a small team of documentary filmmakers based in Berlin, and we are looking for people to support a Borderline's production.
We have gathered some support from companies and have our accommodations covered, but we still need about 2000 euros to pay for three flights.
A donation of any size is appreciated, thank you for supporting young artists.
