My beautiful cousin, Laura Richardson, who is 39 years old, received a diagnosis about a year ago that would change her life. She is a devoted daughter, fiancee, mother of three girls, niece, cousin, and friend.

While some cases are mild, Laura's particular case is aggressive. Scleroderma is very rare and can cause many problems, and there is no known cure. The most common symptom is severe tightening and hardening of the skin, sometimes to the point of inability to walk, bend, sit, stand, or eat. It is very painful. It also affects organs, digestion, and more. Laura is now unable to perform most daily tasks without assistance. The disease is progressing quickly- she has a list of needs that is growing.
My aunt Diane, Laura's mom, is helping care for Laura in her home. With things changing so quickly, they need our help.
Laura needs a handicapped ramp going into the home. Any time she has to leave for appointments, people have to carry her down the steps. Obviously this is dangerous for all involved. She also needs a lift chair/recliner. There will be more needs in the future, I'm sure, but these are the immediate ones.
With winter coming, I'd like to help them get this done. Every little bit helps. They would never reach out and ask for the help themselves, which is exactly why I'm trying to take some of the burden off of them. They are the first to reach out and help others, and now it's our turn to help them.
