Fight Like a Girl

Carla Allard-Watson was diagnosed with cervical cancer in September 2009 and had surgery within weeks of her diagnosis followed by 6 weeks of radiation. Three short months later, Carla had a recurrence. She immediately began chemotherapy, more radiation and brachytherapy followed. In November 2012, a third recurrence reared its ugly head. Carla was referred to Denver by her oncologist for a delicate and invasive surgery. Again in 2013, hot spots appeared on a PET scan and she had more chemotherapy for another 6 weeks. In January 2015, a tumor was detected and surgically removed. Since the January surgery, Carla has received chemo treatments every three weeks. This October, a CAT and PET scan identified five spots that triggered a referral to Mayo.
Throughout this ordeal -over 6 years-Carla's attitude has remained positive and upbeat. She praises her medical team, and she does not want to burden family, friends or coworkers with her situation. She rarely talks about her illness. She continues to work and coach , knowing her strength comes from the students and kids she interacts with daily. Carla is a fighter and an inspiration. Her family is her primary priority for beating this monster. Uncovered medical expenses and travel are significant. Any support is welcomed; prayers, words of encouragement and monetary donations, large or small. Please fight along with Carla.
