In Memory of Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Beaver

With a heavy heart I am sharing that my dear friend Melissa Vashe lost her mother Kathy to a pulmonary embolism last Saturday. Kathy lived a long, healthy life, but in 2018 she suffered heart failure, accompanied by kidney disease and strokes, and continued to deal with severe heart issues and syncopal episodes. Melissa provided full-time care for her mother for the last 5 years, in addition to working 3 part-time jobs to support them both. Despite the painful physical challenges that Kathy faced and the constant economic challenges plaguing them, Melissa made sure that her mother was surrounded by the things she loved. Working tirelessly, Melissa somehow found time to create a beautiful environment of peace and comfort for her mother, directly connected to nature and full of adoring animals. Kathy loved gardening, listening to the desert birds and watching their seasonal movement, soaking up all of nature, and especially sitting with her miniature burro friend Millie every day for hours at a time.

Caring full-time for her mother Kathy these last years and covering medical costs has exhausted Melissa’s finances. We are raising funds to enable her to manage necessary costs of passing, to bring her mother’s ashes home, and to help Melissa get back on her feet. Melissa wants nothing more than to be able to bury her mother’s ashes in the desert earth of their ranch Tierra del Alma, where they shared beautiful last memories together.
