Help Squeak Afford Radioactive Iodine I-131
Donation protected
Hey there, my name is Kian and I'm fundraising on behalf of my partner and her cat, Squeak.
Squeak & Brittany
To say the least, Squeak and Brittany have supported each other through some very intense times. They've lived in 5 different states together, including in a car when they were younger. They've made some really healthy choices to exit unsafe situations and environments that were no longer in there best interest. Since their lives have been more stable, Brittany has helped Squeak taper down from a hefty 30lbs to a much-closer-to-healthy 15. In turn, Squeak has been Brittany's biggest supporter in taking care of her own physical and mental health needs. Brittany has recently taken a huge step with a supportive respite to develop the skills she'll need to be the best version of herself. Squeak hasn't even been that grouchy in the last 3 weeks of her absence. Brittany returns home on Thursday.
The Problem
Squeak had become strangely aggressive over this past week, and we assumed it was the separation taking its toll. Unfortunately, Brittany was not allowed to bring her best friend with her. On Sunday, Squeak began throwing up and caterwauling. Yesterday he ate very little at mealtimes, and we made an emergency trip to the vet when he started hiding around the house and refusing food and treats entirely.
The good news is, Squeak is currently okay. He was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism, and was able to start Methimazole. The symptoms include everything from the digestive issues to the increased aggression. The medication should slowly mitigate the immediate effects of his condition. It does not treat the underlying issue though. It slows the process down and helps him to be more comfortable. Long-term therapy with this drug is not recommended, as the condition is still causing damage to his organs. Most cats live for 3-5 years before eventual kidney or heart failure occur.
Here's Where You Come In
A single injection of Radioiodine (I-131) cures 98-99% of Feline Hyperthyroidism cases without any adverse side effects. This is a non-invasive treatment option with no adverse side effects. No surgery and anesthesia. No medication and long-term organ damage. No experimental prescription food. This insanely effective option is more plausible the sooner the condition is identified, and the emergency vet has assured us that his heart and kidneys are currently fine. We caught this very early thanks to our resident cat whisperer determining something was up last night.
Radioiodine (I-131) Treatment
- Emergency Invoice $742
- Monthly Medication $30
- Total T4 $73
- Urinalysis $62
- Complete Blood Count $100
- Biochemical Profile $117
- Radioiodine Injection (I-131) $2075
We've assumed the cost of the emergency visit out-of-pocket. We're exploring CareWell and other options for the mandatory pre-injection testing, office visits, monthly medication, and follow-up care that will be needed in addition to his routine appointments.
We need help with the $2075 live saving procedure. Brittany is off the grid until we pick her up on Thursday. This isn't life or death news at this point. She's been working her ass off this past month to invest in their long-term future. Leaving Squeak behind was the single hardest part of taking this step for her. Please help us start this fundraising process so we can offer some good news along with scary part.
Not able to give through GoFundMe?
GoFundMe actually allows us to add offline donations. Venmo? Zelle? PayPal?
Not financially in a place to give?
That's okay! We could still use your help. Research has proven fundraisers that are regularly shared on Social Media raise 3x as much money.
- Besides Brittany, our household is not on Social Media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat- whatever your flavor, please share on your Social Networks.
- Share with your friends, family, and communities.
- GoFundMe has a really cool feature that allows anyone to download and print fundraising posters. These can usually go up at your local vet, animal rescue, cafe, etc.
If you're still reading, thank you for your time and attention. We appreciate any and all support.
